🌿 Hello Hello! I'm Liz Heald - The face behind Heald Therapy
As my surname very fittingly suggests, I’ve always had a passion for helping people on their healing journey and creating a space where people feel genuinely heard, understood and safe to be themselves.

I know reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, so creating a warm, relaxed and non-judgemental environment is something that’s really important to me. I truly believe that no two people are the same, which means therapy shouldn’t be either...

My approach is very much centred around the person sitting in front of me. Some people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted or stuck in patterns they can’t quite make sense of, whilst others may simply need a space to pause, process and breathe (and everything in between). Wherever you find yourself, we work together at your pace.

You can also find me on the counselling directory and bacp's therapist search
Therapy is not about having all the answers — sometimes it’s simply about having somewhere to begin.
Outside of the therapy room, I have always been fascinated by people, human behaviour and the different ways we experience the world. Alongside my counselling training, I’ve studied within the wider Social Sciences field at the University of Manchester, including Philosophy, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology and Social Anthropology, as well as having experience across healthcare, legal settings, schools, community work and supporting young people and adolescents.
Therapy has genuinely changed my own life, and a huge part of why I do this work is because I know the difference it can make to feel supported, understood and not so alone in what you’re carrying.
Heald Therapy was created to offer exactly that — a space where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you arrive. We'll make sense of it together.

What Therapy With Me Feels Like
Person-centred at the core:
My core approach is Person-Centred Counselling — which is exactly what it says on the tin. It centres around creating a therapeutic space tailored entirely to you as an individual.
I believe that every person’s journey, experiences and needs are entirely individual, meaning therapy should never feel like a “one size fits all” process.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I tailor sessions specifically to each client and whatever they may be navigating or carrying. Integrative therapy allows me to draw from different therapeutic approaches where appropriate, helping us work in a way that feels most supportive, effective and suited to you as an individual.

Integrative & tailored:
Alongside Person-Centred Counselling, I am also further trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic approaches. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in CBT and a Level 3 Diploma in DBT, allowing me to integrate practical tools, coping strategies and therapeutic techniques into our work where beneficial.

This means sessions can be adapted depending on your individual needs, personality, goals and life experiences. For some clients, this may look like having a safe space to explore emotions openly, whilst for others it may involve more structured work around specific difficulties such as anxiety, emotional regulation, overthinking, low mood, self-esteem or unhelpful behavioural patterns.

Structured support when helpful:
Where appropriate, I can also work collaboratively with clients to create tailored treatment plans focusing on specific issues, goals or areas they would like support with, helping therapy feel collaborative, meaningful and centred around your needs.

Human beings are complex, and therapy should reflect that

Above all else, therapy should feel like a space where you are able to simply be human.
Training, Qualifications & Professional Membership
Alongside my work as an Integrative Counsellor and CBT & DBT Practitioner, I have completed a range of professional training, qualifications and continued professional development focused around mental health, emotional wellbeing, trauma and therapeutic practice.

Whilst qualifications and training are incredibly important within therapeutic work, I also believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most valuable parts of the process. Feeling safe, comfortable and understood within therapy matters just as much as the approaches or techniques being used.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), fully insured and ICO registered.
